“The Promise of a King”

Week 3 of 4 in the Advent series (various texts) – Dec 15, 2024

1.) The Prophecy of His Birth:

• • Prophesied Gen 3:15
  • Promised Gen 15:4-6, 17-18; 17:6
  • Foretold Gen 49:10; Micah 5:2
  • Fulfilled Ps 2:6-7; 55:19
  • Eternal Ps 29:10

2.) The Foreshadowing of His Character:

• • Melchizedek Gen 14:18; Heb 7:17 (bread/wine, priest forever)
  • King David Jn 10:11 (good shepherd)
  • King Solomon 1 Kings 10 (splendor/majesty of kingdom)

3.) The Purpose of His Reign:

1. • Spiritual leadership
   • Mediator between God and man
   • Protector of the nation
   • Administrator of justice

4.) Our Response to His Rule:

1. • Serve the King Rom 12:1
   • Confess Him as Lord Phil 2:9-11
   • Live in His light Col 1:13-14

Application: We are to worship Him, submit our lives to Him, and proclaim (herald) Him to others.

 For one day He will return. He is coming on the clouds!  (Dan 7:13-14; Matt 24:30-31; Rev 1:7)

THEREFORE, we are to:

1. Worship Him – just as the Magi did, bring Him your best.
2. Submit to Him – offer your life as a living sacrifice. He died for you so you can live for Him!
3. Proclaim Him – share the good news of this King with those around you.
