The Cleaning Confession – 1 John 1:9
June 25, 2023
1 John 1:9 –
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just (NASB, righteous) and will forgive us our sins and cleanse (NIV, purify) us from all unrighteousness (NLT, wickedness).
Sermon outline:
- Our condition (if/then)
- The Ongoing Confession (ABC’s)
- The Omnipotent Character (He is, He will)
Our condition is sinful, prideful, and fallen. The initial call to repentance (and salvation) is found in such texts as Romans 10:9-10.
Once saved, our legal position (being in Christ) does not change due to our sin, but our fellowship with God is affected.
See Romans 6:23, 8:1; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 15:3; Ephesians 1:5, 4:30; Hebrews 12:6,9,10; and Revelation 3:19.
See also 2 Corinthians 7:1; 2 Timothy 2:19; Hebrews 8:12.
