Sermon Title: “Jesus is the Anticipation of Joy”
- Two birth announcements bring great joy.
- The news of a son (Luke 1:8-19).
- The news of a Savior (Luke 1:26-38).
- The meeting of the two brings great joy (Luke 1:39-44).
- Mary and Elizabeth.
- John and Jesus.
- The last prophet of the Old Testament brings great joy (Luke 1:76-80).
- John followed in the footsteps of Elijah (Matthew 3:4; 2 Kings 1:8).
- John was the forerunner and fulfiller of prophecy (Isaiah 40:3-5; Luke 3:5-6).
- The Good News of Jesus brings great joy (Luke 2:8-12).
- Birthed in a humble setting (v. 12; Philippians 2:5-8).
- Bathed in the Holy Spirit (John 1:32-34)
Summary and Application:
- John’s birth is the start of joy.
- Jesus’ birth is the source of joy.
- Being born-again is the epitome of joy.
- It’s our job to share this joy!
